13 OBSERVATIONS FROM GHANA’S RECENT FRIENDLY AGAINST TOGO

1
Sulley Muntari has evolved into a deep lying playmaker and his best position now is in central midfield. So his days of bombing down the left as a winger are well and truly over.

2.       Isaac Vorsah remains a fine central defender but is ften prone to periodic loss of concentration, which nearly cost Ghana dear.

3.       David Addy looks a likely candidate for left back. He has vastly improved over the last 10 months or so and a little polishing over the rough edges will see him there.

4.       A problem still exists on the right side of midfield and that is why it took the introduction of Samuel Inkoom to give balance to the team. Perhaps a certain Samuel Affum could be looked at. Yes, I refer to the ex-Hearts of Oak forward who has so far had an impressive season in the Egyptian top flight.

5.       Bernard Kumordji cannot clearly transfer his club form to national duty. He looked out of place and needs time out for now.

6.       Kwadwo Asamoah looked full of tricks but has the tendency to over do it at times. If honed properly, he would unlock any defence and that will be a major weapon for Ghana.

7.       Prince Tagoe is short on form, short on playing time and short on confidence. Perhaps he needs to be given time to adapt to his new surroundings at Partizan before he returns to the Black Stars.

8.       Derek Boateng will never be more that a squad player for the Black Stars. That is a pity, given that he is a regular starter for Getafe in the Spanish top flight.
9.       In spite of the 4 goals, Asamoah Gyan remains a key member of the team and his absence was felt. More firepower is needed upfront and even though Dominic Adiyiah put in an above average shift, perhaps it is time to firm up the Danny Welbeck interest as well.

10.   Jonathan Mensah is fast challenging for a first eleven spot and he took his goal well, but will have to change clubs if he continues to stay on the bench at Granada, since that will adversely affect him.

11.   Emmanuel Agyemang Badu had a decent cameo appearance and like Jonathan, also needs to change clubs if he is to keep his place in the Black Stars squad.

12.   Nana Akwasi Asare’s return to the team in over a year is a major boost to the Black Stars. Formerly a left back, he is used as a winger by Utrecht and he showed enough during the time he was on to challenge Andre Ayew for the left wing slot.

13.   Perhaps Kevin Prince Boateng and Andre Ayew, as well as Gyan were missed, but the seeming embarrassment of riches in the middle means a certain Chelsea player might not be missed in the long term.

  1. hahaa! a certain chelsea player!! wl there be any more place 4 him in the black stars? he's thinking he is indispensable but by the time he realises his folly, his place in our hearts is gone
