ARMSTONG’S ENTRY WILL NOT DAMAGE MY CHANCES – ODOTEI

The Chief Executive officer of King Faisal, Vincent Odotei says the recent declaration of Krypton Ghana Limited boss Neil Armstrong Mortagbe to run for the presidency will not harm his own chances of winning the FA Presidency. Odotei told footyghana.com that even though Armstrong-Mortagbe is a close friend of his, he reckoned that the GHALCA treasurer would find in him a formidable opponent. He said, ‘Neil is a close friend of mine and he is welcome to run, as is anyone who wants to, but he will find in me a formidable, uncompromising and fierce competitor. I don’t think he has any chance of taking away any of my potential votes for the election.’ Odotei also told footyghana.com that Armstrong-Mortagbe has entered the race as a result of what he described as his courage in coming out much earlier. ‘I am sure that Neil has decided to run because over the last 18 months, I have made my views clear and in the face of much criticism, I have persisted. It is interesting that Neil has decided to contest because we all know the sort of work he has done for the GFA in the past and so if he is standing, then that shows I have succeeded in liberating people’s minds regarding the GFA.’

ELECTIONS WILL HAVE MORE VARIETY WITH ARMSTRONG INVOLVED – FA PRESIDENT

The Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says the declaration of marketing consultant Neil Armstrong Mortagbe to stand for the GFA Presidency will only spice up the elections and give the electorate a variety of options to choose from when the time comes. Nyantakyi, who is seeking a second term of office and will thus run against Armstrong and King Faisal boss Vincent Sowah Odotei, told footyghana.com that even though he was surprised that Armstrong Mortagbe has decided to run for the position, he believes that the Krypton Ghana Limited CEO has a lot to offer, describing Armstrong as his friend. He said, ‘I was surprised to hear of his declaration but I think he also has a lot to offer Ghana football. I have worked with him on several projects before and he is my friend. His inclusion should give the electorate a lot of options to choose from.’ Nyantakyi also told footyghana.com that the Executive Committee of the GFA was in discussions to decide when the presidential polls will take place, but did not clarify whether the regional congresses will take place before or after the GFA Presidential elections.

I AM NOT STANDING FOR FA PRESIDENCY – PAPPOE

THE Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe says he has no intention of standing for the FA Presidency. Media reports yesterday seemed to suggest that Pappoe was also going to declare his intention of standing for the hot seat, but he told footyghana.com that nothing of the sort was happening. He said, ‘ It is not true that I am standing for the position nor do I have an intention of doing so. Why should I even consider it when the current president Kwesi Nyantakyi is doing so well in the position? I think he should be allowed to continue the good work.’ Currently, King Faisal CEO Vincent Sowah Odotei and Ghana League Clubs Association treasurer Neil Armstrong Mortagbe have declared their intention to challenge Nyantakyi for the hot seat.

EXCLUSIVE: NEIL ARMSTRONG TO CONTEST FA PRESIDENCY

Footyghana.com can confirm that the Chief Executive Officer of sports marketing firm Krypton Ghana Limited, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe has decided to contest for the Presidency of the Ghana Football Association. According to sources close to Armstrong, he had been thinking about this for the last three months but until this morning, had not made up his mind to stand for the position. Armstrong-Mortagbe is currently the Treasurer of the Ghana league Clubs Association and served as the chairman of the National Chapters Committee of Accra Hearts of Oak for a four year term. He has also served as the Director of the Nationwide Supporters Union (NSU) and he is currently a FIFA Accredited instructor. He is widely credited with bringing in sponsorship from Tarkwa Damang Goldfields to the senior national team, the Black Stars. This means that Armstrong-Mortagbe joins Vincent Sowah Odotei and possibly Ghana legend Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ in challenging incumbent President Kwasi Nyantakyi for the position later this year.

SPORTING MIRREN PROGESSES IN MTN FA CUP

First Division outfit Sporting Mirren continued its fairytale progress in this year’s MTN FA Cup with a 3-1 win over fellow First Division campaigners King Solomon in a Round of 32 clash at the KawuKudi Park in Accra this afternoon. King Solomon, who eliminated Premier league outfit Mighty Jets in the previous round, began t game strongly and took the lead just before half time through Davis Akoto Danso. Sporting Mirren came out fighting in the second half and soon they were level after Richard Okaidja nodded home from a corner kick. Another corner kick brought about another goal, this time from the competition’s leading scorer Alex Anim, who has now scored in three consecutive ties; a mini FA Cup record. King Solomon were almost let into the match after Sporting Mirren midfielder Yusif Abubakar was sent off for a needless handball, after already being booked in the first half. King Solomon scorer Akoto Danso was also sent off for dangerous play. Substitute Anderson Darkwa then put the gloss on Mirren’s performance by capitalizing on a goalkeeping error by King Solomon keeper Francis Ayitey to score the third goal on the stroke of full time.

In another development, Anjourin Moucharafu, Nyantakyi’s rival in the CAF Executive Committee Elections will be re-assigned a new match by CAF after originally billed to act as a match commissioner for the Congo v Ghana game. KOTOKO’S FA CUP TIE POSTPONED INDEFINITELY

The MTN FA Cup Round of 32 clash between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Deportivo has been postponed indefinitely as a result of the fact that the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association is yet to complete the hearings of a protest brought against Deportivo by Elmina Sharks. ADOMAH’S SUSPENSION SHOULDN’T WORRY US – BEN ZOLA

The assistant coach of Ghana champions Aduana Stars, Ben Zola says the suspension of central defender Johnson Adomah will not affect the team going into Sunday’s crucial CAF Champions League clash with Wydad Casablanca in Dormaa on Sunday. Zola told footyghana.com that there is adequate cover for Adomah, who was sent off in the first leg game in Morocco where Aduana Stars lost the first leg 3-0. The assistant coach also noted that even though the club rarely scored more than two goals in a game, he believes that the strike pair of Joseph Mugri and Nurudeen Ali could do a good job, adding that after Aduana Stars conceded the three goals in the opening 25 minutes in Morocco, the team played better, which gives him hope for Sunday’s encounter. Aduana Stars need 4 unanswered goals to make sure of progress into the second round and are the first team from the Brong Ahafo region to represent Ghana in Africa’s premier club competition.

IDAN, ADAMS, LARBI COOMSON CONSIDERED FOR BLACK METEORS – DUNCAN

The head coach of the Black Meteors, David Duncan says some members of the Local Black Stars will be considered for selection when the second phase of preparation for the All Africa games qualifier against Sudan commences on March 7. Duncan told footyghana.com that this was to augment areas of the Meteors squad that need strengthening, adding that Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams, Medeama SC playmaker Daniel Larbi Coomson and Berekum Chelsea striker Bismark Idan are among players under consideration for selection into the team. Duncan further revealed that because CAF regulations require the submission of squad names 14 clear days before the match, which actually takes place around the same time that the Black Stars are playing their 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier against Congo in Brazzaville, certain names have already been submitted but he doesn’t expect to have all of them available. He said, ‘For example, we have submitted the names of Andre Ayew and Jonathan Mensah among others, but because of the Black Stars game, most of them might not be available.’
