WHACKY STORIES - SERIES 8

This is a collection of some football gossip and rumours making the rounds. These are simply nothing more than that even though what you are about to read may contain a grain of truth.

1.       After Claude Le Roy left Ghana in 2008, the Ghana Football Association contacted Phillipe Troussier with a view to taking over as the new Black Stars coach. Troussier is said to have asked for a monthly salary of $30,000 and further asked the GFA to get him former Ghana captain Ibrahim Sunday as his assistant. Troussier is said to have asked for Sunday because years ago, when he was coaching Asec Mimosas in the Ivory Coast, Sunday was in charge of Asec’s arch rivals Africa Sports. The GFA is said to have pulled the plug on the deal because Troussier is said to have asked for Sunday to be paid $10,000 a month.

2.       An unnamed top dog of the Ghana Football Association is said to have pocketed an amount in excess of $400,000 which represented a percentage of the total quantum of money paid out by telecommunications giants Glo to sponsor the Premier League and the national team, the Black Stars. Glo agreed to pay $3 million a year for the league and $1.5 million a year for the Black Stars. The unnamed GFA big wig is said to have initially trousered $450,000 which represents 10% of the amount spent by Glo in the first year and later had to part with some of the money so soften certain individuals in Ghana football.

3.       Black Stars sponsors Tarkwa Goldfields are said to be undecided as to whether to continue sponsoring the national team. Goldfields began sponsoring the team from 2005 and renewed the contract in 2008. The contract is supposed to expire at the end of this month and so far, nothing has been heard of whether Tarkwa Goldfields will renew the deal or not.
