I APPLIED FOR HEARTS TOP JOB – NANA AGYEMANG

Footyghana.com has chanced upon a proposal sent to former league champions Accra Hearts of Oak by notable football critic and coach, Nana Kwaku Agyemang offering his services to the club as the Technical Director. According to the document sighted by footyghana.com, Nana highlighted the fact that there had been several coaching changes made by the club and that the focus of the club has always been how to beat arch-rivals Asante Kotoko and not how to sustain a long term plan and vision that will make feeder club Auroras a vital part of Hearts of Oak’s future.
The outspoken coach also outlines in the document the fact that Hearts of Oak have never had a technical directorate to among other things developing Auroras as a nursery for developing players for the first team and appointing scouts for Auroras and the senior team, developing a selection criteria for selecting coaches and players for Auroras and the Senior team and the development of a strategic training programme for both teams. Nana noted in the document that without technical direction the club will continue to respond to issues with what he termed as knee jerk reactions instead of adopting strategic approaches to issues.
Nana contends in the document that should the club agree to appoint him as the Technical Director, he would ensure the streamlining of all Hearts of Oak teams plus the option of sourcing for sponsorship for the development of the club’s own training facilities and stadia.
According to the document, Nana proposed ex-Eleven Wise coaching duo of Edward Gallagher and Nana Andy Sinason as the clubs coaches, with Gallagher in charge of the first team and Sinason in charge of Auroras and also assisting Gallagher. Interestingly, the document also captures Nana Agyemang’s financial demands. According to the proposal, Nana, together with Gallagher and Sinason, were asking for a combined monthly salary of GH¢5000 with a combined signing on fee of GH¢15000 plus each coach receiving twice the winning bonuses of players per match. Hearts of Oak eventually gave the job to Serbian coach Nebojsa Voricevic who will be formally outdoored on Thursday.
When contacted, Nana Agyemang confirmed that he had sent the document and expressed his disappointment that he did not get the nod. He however told footyghana.com that the Hearts of Oak management and Board of Directors were very receptive to his ideas and even though he did not get the job, it is likely that some of the ideas contained in the document will be implemented. Nana also told footyghana.com that one of the ways that Hearts of Oak can solve their goal scoring problems is to convert central defender Osei Bonsu into a striker. He says, ‘Osei Bonsu is strong and has a terrific shot on him. With a lot of work on the training pitch, he will terrorise many defences.’ It will be recalled that when Nana Agyemang was the technical Director of Eleven Wise, he converted RahimAyew from a left back into a box-to-box midfielder, which resulted in a call up into the Local Black Stars and Rahim eventually made it into Ghana’s 2010 World Cup squad.
Nana also told footyghana.com that he has applied several times in the past to head up the coaching team of Asante Kotoko without success, but still hopes that in the near future, he will make his return to active coaching. Nana holds a UEFA License B certificate and is also a Level 1 and 2 coaching educator. He masterminded the promotion of Gamba All Blacks and Eleven Wise from the first division to the Premier League and contrary to public opinion, he left Okwahu United long before the club got relegated into Division One. Together with Gallagher and Sinason, he took Eleven Wise to 4th place in the Premier League before the trio left the club in February 2009.
