SOULEY PULLS OUT OF RACE TO SUPPORT NYANTAKYI

Footyghana.com can confirm that one of the three remaining candidates in the race for a position on the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, Amadou Hima Souley has withdrawn his candidature in favour of Ghana’s kwasi Nyantakyi. According to ace journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah who is currently monitoring events leading up to Wednesday’s elections, the Nigerien match Commissioner, who was considered an outsider, announced his decision earlier this morning in an interview on Y FM. Hima Souley follows Togo’s Tata Avlessi in supporting Nyantakyi, who is now locked in a two-horse race with main contender Anjourin Moucharaf of Benin. Ampofo Ankrah told footyghana.com that the withdrawal does not necessarily mean that the coast is clear for Nyantakyi because Anjourin is seen as a close ally of CAF President Issa Hayatou, who might have an influence on the final vote. The ETV ace presenter however added that Nyantakyi’s election will largely hinge on whether the eligible voters decide to vote for change, which might ultimately mean the end of Hayatou’s reign at the top, since at least 14 more CAF Executive Committee membership positions will also be fought for on Wednesday.
